    Around Mousehole

Mousehole is an old fishing village and is an ideal location for exploring the Penwith Peninsular, the most westerly headland in England.  It's an area which combines dramatic granite cliffs, blue seas, wide open moorland and lush, green valleys.  It's a land of legends, where you can find prehistoric villages, ancient hillforts, Celtic wayside croses and derelict tin-mines.  It is a paradise for walkers.

The landscape and the light have inspired, and still inspire many artists.  The Tate at St. Ives and the Penzance Art Gallery have fine collections of abstract and impressionist paintings dating from the mid 19th century.  Many artists and craftsmen live and work in the area; work of very high quality is exhibited in local galleries.

Because of the particularly mild climate (frosts in winter are almost unknown) sub-tropical plants and trees can be grown, and there is an abundance of wild flowers, particularly in late spring.  Within an easy drive, there are a number of gardens which are open to the public.  Birdwatchers enjoy seeing the arrival and departure of the migrants in spring and autumn and also the variety of water birds on the marshes at Marzion.

For those who want to relax on a beach, there are pretty coves like the one at Porthcurno and long stretches of sand at Mounts Bay and Sennen.  There is also sailing at Mounts Bay and windsurfing at Sennen.  The Minack open-air thatre at Porthcuno runs a varied programme throughout the summer.  There is a fine golf course which follows the top of the cliffs above Cape Cornwall, near St Just.  The club also has a swimming pool with jacuzzi and sauna.  Indoor attractions in the area include entertainments and exhibitions at Lands end, Flambards Triple theme park, Poldark Mine, Paradise Park and many more ...

In short, there is something to delight everyone in this area.  I am sure that you will find that you can add to this list ...!
